DIY Nursery Mobile

The most exciting room I have ever decorated was Imogene's nursery. As soon as we knew we were having a girl, pink and green came to my mind. Other terms floating around in there were vintage, old, recycled, upcycled, eclectic, whimsical, retro...are you getting my thought process? I just love all things vintage, new things made to look vintage, and vintage things made into new awesome things! I also love spending little to no money! Some would call me "cheap"...I like to say "thrifty" or "frugal"...whatever the term...I ain't spending a lot of money!

I knew I wanted to make some kind of a mobile for Immie's room, but I just wasn't sure how to do it or what materials to use.
I scoured Google and Pinterest and found many great ideas, but nothing struck me. While at Walmart perusing the 75% off Christmas aisle, I saw all these green and pink shiny ornaments. The light bulb in my head burned bright! I bought a package of shiny pink ornaments and then some larger green "disco" ball ornaments. Now I just had to figure out what to do with them.
I remembered that I had the skeleton of an old 1940's lamp shade. I make beaded jewelry so I also had a bunch of wire. I had some spare chain necklace lying about too. So I set out to make my mobile.

I set the lampshade on a lamp so it would be balanced and off the ground. This made it much easier to hang the ornaments and make any adjustments needed. Next, I measured and cut the wire for the 3 glittery pink ornaments and attached them to the lamp shade using crimp beads and crimping pliers. I decided how far down I wanted the 3 green "disco" ornaments to hang and then measured and cut the wire. I attached them using the same method as the pink ornaments. I just eyeballed the 2 center ornaments. To hang it I cut 3 pieces of necklace chain and attached them with a jump ring.

Tada! One DIY nursery mobile made using cheap ornaments and stuff found around the house!

I thought about painting the lamp shade to match the chain, but I decided I like the old bronze and gunmetal finish on it against the shine of the chain. The little shelf in the picture I found at a thrift store for $2 bucks and painted green. You can't tell in this picture but I painted a gold wash over it as well. The little trinkets on it are all vintage. I'll be going around the room talking about the DIY projects in it...so please join this site so you can get updates.
